Garnet McBurney

Born and raised in southwestern Manitoba, Garnet grew up with a keen interest in the business side of the agriculture industry. Diversifying that knowledge and experience in other directions, and giving recognition to his lifelong entrepreneurial desire, it soon became clear that Garnet’s vocation was in public practice.

In 2007, drawing on the experiences of a lengthy career in accounting and an acute understanding of business operations, finance and management, Garnet launched Venture Accounting Group. What began as a part-time, home-based firm quickly became a full-time career, and his firm and his team have become one of the best options in southern Manitoba for full-service bookkeeping, payroll, consulting and controllership services.

Garnet has a passionate interest in entrepreneurship, and working with entrepreneurs with new and unique business ideas.

Ginger Hunter

Born and raised in southwestern Manitoba, Ginger loves small towns and rural life. She was recognized in the community as a contact lens fitter and licensed optician for over a decade. Ginger’s commitment to serve the public is resolute and, equipped with a multitude of transferable skills, she passionately tackles financial challenges for a wide variety of clients.

Ginger joined Venture in 2011, initially on a part-time basis, and then in 2014 assuming her full time role. She has a completely infectious personality and her character and sense of humor foster an engaging office environment.

Ginger excels at inventory management, fixed asset management and in particular, process development. She works with clients across industry sectors, including security, telecommunications, manufacturing and non-profit organizations. Ginger takes pride in assisting business owners with customized financial work plans centered on accuracy and efficiency.

Kaitlyn Mitchell

Kaitlyn grew up in the small Manitoba town of Baldur. Always dreaming of something bigger, she chose to embark on a career in the business sector specializing her skill set in accounting and small business solutions.

Graduating in May 2013 with a Bachelor of Business Administration from Brandon University, she quickly set to task applying her book knowledge to practical experience.  Kaitlyn has sought out a variety of challenges in her career to date – working with non-profits, retail start-ups, small home businesses and farming operations of all shapes and sizes. She dives right in to any new client with an “all in” philosophy not shying away from learning new software and processes and embracing their business as an extension of herself.

Sonja Chambers

Sonja joined Venture in a part-time role in early 2015 and quickly established herself as our payroll “go-to” person. Currently a member of the Canadian Payroll Association, she is studying towards her certification as a Payroll Compliance Practitioner, with expectations of being certified by fall of 2016.

Sonja works part-time helping out other staff with bookkeeping tasks as well. Sonja works with farm clients, non-profit organizations and small service trades.

Leah Figol

Born and raised in Brandon, Leah graduated from Vincent Massey High School when (as Leah proclaims) dinosaurs roamed the earth.

After spending nearly 10 years in western Canada, Leah moved back home to Brandon, taking a position in IT support with a local CA firm. Over the next 10 years, Leah moved her specialty from IT support to bookkeeping, where she has worked extensively with construction and trades clients (so she’d always have someone to call on to fix her house!). Her current client list includes construction and trades, retail sales clients, food and beverage and service industry clients.

Leah’s interests outside of work include spending time at the lake in the summer and being a craft beer aficionado.

Krista Bouchard

Krista joined the Venture team in February of 2018 on a part time basis. She brings with her experience
from the Agriculture industry after owning and operating a purebred cattle operation with her husband
for 22 years. She also spent 10 of these years working as a Municipal Administrator. Krista is Office
Manager and helps other staff with bookkeeping tasks.

When not at work Krista enjoys spending time with her family and travelling. Whether its to a hot
winter holiday destination or a fun summer day trip with her hubby in the old ’67 Chevy!
